Riet Castle, originally a Staufer moated castle, is a structure located in the Riet district of Vaihingen an der Enz and is now privately owned.

History+

The origins of Riet Castle date back to the 12th century, when a Staufer moated castle stood on this site. In the 15th century, the lower floors were built on the foundations of this older complex. An expansion occurred in the 16th century, when the building was supplemented with four corner towers and two half-timbered stories. At this time, the castle first came into the possession of the Lords of Reischach-Riet, specifically through Hans von Reischach. After a loss of ownership in 1593 and several changes of hands, the castle passed to Württemberg in 1620.
