Riggisberg Castle

The origins of Riggisberg Castle date back to 1140, when Constantin de Rucasperc was first documented as a representative of the Riggisberg family. In 1337, the estate passed into the possession of the von Diesbach family. Between 1282 and 1381, the castle suffered looting by forces from Unterwalden and Brienz. Around 1385, the von Erlach family took ownership, holding it for over four centuries. Around 1700, Albrecht von Erlach had the tall castle, which still stands today, constructed. Karl Albrecht Ferdinand von Erlach sold the estate to Karl Friedrich Steiger in 1799.
