Rimpach Castle is a historic estate in the Allgäu region, with a well-preserved structure. It is an example of a former prince-bishop's hunting lodge.

History+

The origins of the current castle complex date back to the 14th century, when a Gothic chapel stood on this site. The present Rimpach Castle was constructed between 1754 and 1757 under the direction of architect Johann Georg Specht. The patron was Count Franz Karl Eusebius von Waldburg-Friedberg und Trauchburg, who at the time served as Prince-Bishop of Chiemsee and Canon in Salzburg and Basel. St. Leonhard's Chapel, traceable to the older Gothic chapel, was rebuilt in 1765 and features frescoes inside. The castle's Hall of Mirrors is adorned with a stucco ceiling created in 1757 by Joseph Anton Feuchtmayer and Johann Georg Dirr.
