Johann Erhardt Maria von Falkenstein acquired the Oberrimsingen manor in 1621 and built an estate. Today, parts of the farm buildings from 1626 are still preserved. From 1733-76, Baron Franz Anton Marquard von Falkenstein had the estate expanded into a castle complex. The property changed hands in 1873 to the Counts of Helmstatt, in 1957 to Mathilde Kranke Baroness von Gleichenstein, and in 1979 to the city of Breisach. Today, the castle is privately owned. It was renovated in 1985-86.
