In Hamminkeln-Ringenberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, stands Ringenberg Castle. Originally a medieval fortress, it was transformed into a Baroque castle in the 17th century and today serves as a cultural and administrative center of the region.

History+

The origins of Ringenberg Castle date back to the 13th century, when it was built as a fortress in the border region between the County of Cleves, the Archdiocese of Cologne, and the Prince-Bishopric of Münster. After its destruction by Dutch troops during the Thirty Years' War, the complex was rebuilt in the 17th century by Baron Alexander von Spaen and transformed into a Baroque castle.
