The Castle can be visited

In the west of the eponymous town in Central Saxony, Saxony, Germany, Rochlitz Castle stands on an outcrop of the Rochlitz mountain. Originally an imperial castle from the 10th century, it evolved into a margravial castle and served the Wettins as a residence, widow's seat, and hunting lodge.

History+

The origins of Rochlitz Castle date back to the second half of the 10th century, when an imperial castle was built on this site. In 1143, the castle came into the possession of the Wettin margraves. Its current appearance was largely shaped by a transformation into a margravial castle in the last quarter of the 14th century, supplemented by further construction phases in the late 15th and 16th centuries.
