The castle was first mentioned in the 1443rd. Owners were the family of Altenstein, of Lauter, of Grumbach, of Petsch, of Lauter and of Castell. 1743, the castle was renovated. Since 1968, the castle is owned by the Association of Christian scouts Lv. Bavaria (VCP).
