In the Röthenbach district of Arzberg stands a Renaissance building, once surrounded by a moat, characterized by its hook-shaped layout and oriel windows.

History+

As early as 1360, the Lords of Schirnding held the village of Röthenbach as a fief from the Nothafts of Thierstein. A fortified residence of the family in Röthenbach is first mentioned in 1389. The current Renaissance building was constructed between 1559 and 1561 on behalf of Jobst Heinrich von Schirnding and his wife Dorothea von Waldenfels, as evidenced by an inscription above the portal of the stair tower. The last Schirnding owner of Röthenbach, Georg Friedrich Christian, died in 1819.
