In Heidelberg's Rohrbach district is Rohrbach Castle, also known as Rohrbacher Schlösschen. The neoclassical building was once built as a hunting lodge and now serves as the administration for a specialist clinic.

History+

Around 1770, the later Duke Karl II August of Palatinate-Zweibrücken had Rohrbach Castle built as a hunting residence, complete with a landscaped park. In 1803, the estate passed into the possession of Margravine Amalie of Baden, who had it redesigned, giving it its current appearance. Already during World War I, the small castle served as a military hospital before being converted into a tuberculosis hospital from 1920 onwards. It later developed into a specialized clinic for thoracic surgery and tuberculosis.
