Rohrbach Castle
Rohrbach Castle is located in the old village center of the Upper Bavarian village of Rohrbach in the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm. Together with the historic fortified church, the old tavern, and the town hall, it forms the former village center of the community. Rohrbach Castle was the seat of the closed Hofmark Rohrbach and is a typical Hofmark castle with outbuildings, a church, and a courtyard wall.
The nobles of Rohrbach are first mentioned in the 11th century. Tassilo de Rohrbach is reported, whose descendants owned the castle until their extinction in the male line. The last owners of the Rohrbekhen family in 1709 were Heinrich, Johann, and Moriz von Rohrbach.
Until 1732, the Hofmark was owned by the Counts of Perusa. The subsequent owner family, the Barons von Dürsch, sold it in 1816 to the royal financial director Alois Koch, who was ennobled in 1817 as Edler von Koch auf Rohrbach. Rohrbach Castle remains to this day in the possession of the Edlen von Koch auf Rohrbach.
Architectural Description+
The original fortified castle stood on the Turmberg. When it was destroyed in 1420 in the so-called "Bavarian War," a Georg von Rohrbach rebuilt the castle in the village. In 1734, the castle was extended with a stepped curvilinear gable and baroque-style elements were added. In the middle of the 18th century, the Barons von Dürsch erected the gatehouse with a mansard hip roof.
The interior furnishings are almost entirely preserved and include a remarkable ancestral hall and magnificent tiled stoves.
In the east wing of the castle complex, the area of the outbuildings, a baroque hop kiln is preserved.
