Ronneburg Castle

Ronneburg Castle was built around 1200 by the Knights of Ronneburg. The name meant something like "Castle on the Rinne (the stream)". In 1209, Knight Heinrich von Ronneburg is mentioned as the lord of the castle. After this, ownership passed to the bailiffs of Weida, who owned the castle until 1244. After this, ownership passed to the Lords of Reuss, to the Wettins, at the end of the 15th century as a fief to the von Ende family, and in 1517 to the von Wildenfels family. In 1522, the castle was expanded under Anarg von Wildenfels - the Knights' Hall was built. In 1651, the castle was renovated under Friedrich Wilhelm II.
