History+
The origins of Rosenborg Castle date back to 1606, when King Christian IV acquired land outside the northeastern city walls to create a pleasure garden, the Kongens Have. Within this garden, a two-story summer house was initially built in 1607. Between 1613 and 1615, the northern wing was added, followed by a third story and three towers from 1616 to 1624. From this point on, the estate was known as Rosenborg. The castle achieved its current form in 1634 with the tower on the east facade, designed by Hans van Steenwinckel the Younger.
