Rosenburg Castle

Rosenburg Castle was built in 1831 at the initiative of Professor Georg August Goldfuß, a paleontologist and zoologist at the University of Bonn. He had the estate constructed in the Neo-Romanesque style according to designs by architect Carl Alexander Heideloff. In 1862, the castle changed hands and was acquired by Gustav Schlieper, a silk manufacturer from Düsseldorf. Between 1919 and 1920, Rosenburg was sold to the Apostolate for Priestly and Religious Vocations, which established a training center for priests there. In 1938, the German Wehrmacht occupied the castle, expanded it, and used it for officer training courses. During World War II, it served as a vacation accommodation for civilian employees of the Luftwaffe. Towards the end of the war, in 1944, Rosenburg was temporarily used by the medical clinic of the University of Bonn.
