Rothenthurm Castle

The castle was built in 1478, owned by Hans Metschacher, and first mentioned in a document in 1494 as the house "Turm zu Fewstritz". In 1624, ownership transferred to the Kirchbichler family. From 1641 to 1766, the castle was owned by the Kainbacher family, who had it expanded into a castle in 1641 by Andree Eder. The castle consists of two two-story wings with corner oriel windows. On the courtyard side, there are column arcades. The decorative tendril painting in a room on the upper floor was uncovered and restored in 1968-69. The chapel was built in 1647 by Mrs. Eva Kirchpichler, née Eder, in honor of St. Joseph (according to the inscription on the stucco-framed portal). The chapel is a rectangular room with stucco frames; the stucco altar shows a painting of the Holy Family, and on the antependium there is a painting of the Holy Walk. A painting of the Pietà is dated 1648, a statue of the standing Mary with Child dates from the 14th century. The bell is from 1676.
