Rothmühle Castle

The first documented mention of Rothmühle Castle dates back to around 1300. It served various purposes, including as a mill, a textile and leather factory, and as accommodation for working-class families. The name of the property also changed several times, from “Mühle in dem grunde derhalben des Wazzers” to “Rothe Mühle” and finally to today's “Rothmühle,” with the origin of the name possibly attributed to red bricks. Among its owners, Anna Maria von Posch stands out, the wife of the physician Franz Anton Mesmer, who resided at the castle for a time. Towards the end of World War II, the building suffered significant bomb damage.
