Rued Castle

The origins of the estate date back to 1155, when the Lords of Ruoda, ministeriales of the Kyburgers and later the Habsburgs, were first mentioned in documents. Their original ancestral seat, Alt-Rued Castle, was abandoned in the 11th or 12th century and destroyed in the Sempach War of 1386. After the extinction of the Ruoda family in 1369, the dominion of Rued changed hands several times through inheritance and sale, including the families of Büttikon, Rüssegg, Scharnachthal, and Herport. In 1520, Glado May acquired the property. A major fire completely destroyed the medieval castle in 1775.
