The history of the current Rühstädt Castle begins in 1780, when Magdalene von Jagow, née von Bismarck, acquired the estate. Together with her husband Georg Otto Friedrich von Jagow, she had a new building constructed on the site of the castle destroyed by fire in 1780. This two-story building with its early Classicist stucco facade was completed in 1782. The castle underwent extensions: in 1911, the south side was extended, and between 1990 and 1992, the north side received additions. For generations, the castle was the center of a knight's estate and the residence of the von Jagow family, who established their own Rühstädt family line. An owner in the 19th century was Carl von Jagow-Rühstädt, who held the title of hereditary master of the hunt. The family was dispossessed in 1945/1946 as part of the land reform.

Rühstädt Castle, an example of early Classicist architecture, stands in the Prignitz region in Brandenburg. The current building, erected on the foundations of a burnt-down predecessor, now serves as a hotel.
