Rümligen Castle

The origins of Rümligen Castle date back to the late 11th century, when it was established as the seat of the Barons of Rümligen on the eastern slope of the Längenberg. The oldest preserved part is the keep, which is now crowned by a mansard roof. In 1515, the property passed to Burkhard Schütz and in 1634 to Hans Rudolf von Erlach. A renovation took place around 1710, after Samuel Frisching (II.), a Bernese chief magistrate, acquired the estate in 1684. He had the residential buildings constructed and transformed the castle into a Baroque palace. Since then, Rümligen Castle has remained in family ownership, passed down through generations.
