In Rugendorf, Upper Franconia, in the district of Kulmbach, stands Rugendorf Castle, a historic structure at an elevation of approximately 403 meters above sea level. Its history ranges from noble ownership to use as a granary, and its current status as private property.

The origins of Rugendorf Castle date back to 1555, when it was built by Jörg von Waldenfels. In 1628/29, the estate changed hands, passing to the Bamberg Bishop Johann Georg II. Fuchs von Dornheim. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle remained largely undamaged. An alteration occurred in 1727, when the roof truss was rebuilt, and the building subsequently served as a granary. In the 19th century, it was again used for residential purposes. After World War II, the roof truss was renewed.
