Rullingen Castle

The origins of Rullingen Castle lie in a strongly fortified medieval keep, whose foundations, cellar vaults, and a well are still preserved today. Eggebertus van Rolengen, a vassal of Count Arnold II of Loon, is considered the first known owner. In 1640, a moated castle in the Maasland Renaissance style was built on these foundations. It comprised a U-shaped farmyard and an L-shaped manor house with corner towers. The castle changed hands several times, including the Hulsburg and Voordt families, before passing to the Baron of Zeegrade in the 18th century. In the 18th and 19th centuries, alterations were made, including the addition of a coach house and the creation of an English garden on the south side.
