Rurich Castle

The origins of Rurich Castle date back to 1248, when the von Rurich family was first mentioned in documents. In the 15th century, the property passed to the von Zweibrüggen family through marriage, who adopted the name “von Rurich.” Another marriage in 1517 brought the estate to the von Reuschenberg family. After Reinhard Dietrich von Reuschenberg died childless in 1612, the castle came into the possession of the von Hompesch-Bollheim family through his aunt, who were elevated to Imperial Counts in 1706. Following the death of the last male descendant of this line in 1909, ownership transferred to the Schlick family and eventually, through inheritance, to the current owners, the Imperial Counts Eckbrecht von Dürckheim-Montmartin. The original castle complex, completed in 1585, is now only preserved in its cellar vaults.
