In the Swedish province of Uppland, Rydboholm Castle is a 16th-century estate. It is distinguished by its freestanding Vasa Tower, considered the oldest part of the complex.

History+

The origins of Rydboholm Castle date back to the 16th century. Construction of the castle was initiated in 1548 by Per Brahe the Elder. It is believed that Gustav Vasa was born in this castle. Inside the Vasa Tower is Gustav Vasa's study chamber, with furnishings from the mid-16th century. The castle's current appearance is the result of an 18th-century renovation.
