Salsta Castle
Salsta Castle is an impressive Baroque castle near Vattholma in the Swedish province of Uppsala. It is characterized by its long history and architectural splendor, making it a remarkable testament to past eras.
History+
Salsta's origins date back to the early Middle Ages, when it was known as a fortified farm. In 1301, Knight Magnus Gregersson was mentioned as the first known owner, followed by Knight Philip Ulfsson in 1304. In the mid-14th century, the estate passed to the Oxenstierna family through marriage, who owned it for almost two centuries. In the 16th century, the Bielke family took over Salsta and built a Renaissance castle there. The current Baroque structure was built between 1672 and 1678 under the direction of Count Nils Bielke the Younger. In 1751, ownership changed again when Count Eric Brahe became the owner of the castle.
