Sandemar Castle

The Sandemar estate was originally owned by the Teutonic Order of Livonia during the Kalmar Union. Later, it was acquired by the Privy Councillor Erik Axelsson Tott in 1467, likely through the purchase of all the Order's lands in present-day Sweden. Ownership in the 16th century is unclear, but in the 17th century, the castle alternated between the noble families Oxenstierna, Bonde, and Falkenberg. It is believed that the Royal Councillor Gabriel Falkenberg, who became Count Falkenberg af Sandemar in 1693, had the current manor house built around 1690. In 1738, the district judge Carl Wattrang bought the castle and declared it a family fideicommissum. This status was abolished in 1964, which allowed for its sale to a private individual in 2006.
