Sandersdorf Castle

The origins of the current castle date back to the Middle Ages, when the Lords of Sandersdorf, ministeriales of the Wittelsbach family, built a castle here. After the extinction of this lineage in 1372, various owners followed, including the Rindsmaul and the Kemnater. In 1420, the castle was plundered by Duke Heinrich of Bavaria-Landshut during the war with Duke Ludwig the Bearded of Bavaria-Ingolstadt. The Muggenthaler family acquired the castle in 1425 and rebuilt it. Under their rule, a castle brewery was founded in 1550. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was destroyed again, but by 1646 it was rebuilt by Albrecht Ulrich von Muggenthal as a four-winged Baroque castle. After being sold to Wolfgang Unverzagt Freiherr von Roy in 1646, the castle changed hands again in 1650, passing to the Ingolstadt professor Johann Jakob Lossius.
