Sandizell Castle

The first mention of Sandizell dates to 1007, when it served as an economic estate for the Benedictine nuns from Neuburg an der Donau. In 1464, the fortification was documented as a Hofmark of the Sandizell family. Around 1580, it underwent expansion into a three-winged Renaissance complex, consisting of the east, west, and south wings, with the south wing featuring a four-arch bridge leading to the entrance hall. In 1632, during the Thirty Years' War, Swedish troops burned down the complex, leaving only the east wing, which still stands today.
