Sanssouci Castle
Sanssouci Palace, a Rococo palace, is located in the eastern part of Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, Brandenburg. It is an example of Prussian architecture and garden art and is among the Hohenzollern castles.
History+
King Frederick II of Prussia had the palace built between 1745 and 1747 according to his own sketches. He commissioned architect Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff for the planning. Originally conceived as a summer residence, it was later extended under Frederick William IV in 1841/42 by lengthening the side wings, with Ludwig Persius creating the designs based on royal sketches. Since 1990, the ensemble of palace and park has been a UNESCO World Heritage site.
