Mittelalter und Neuzeit

Schafstädt is first mentioned in a document in 1302 as being in the possession of the knight Siegfried von Schafstädt. The castle was built in the Baroque style from 1730 to 1740 on the walls of the old fortress. After the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone in 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. Subsequently, the estate was used as an Agricultural Production Cooperative (LPG). Since 2002, a modern elderly and nursing home has been housed on the castle grounds.
