Schechingen Castle

The origins of the estate date back to 1050, when a knight's castle was built on the marketplace of Schechingen, belonging to the Lords of Schechingen. In 1322, Ulrich I of Schechingen sold half of the castle to Ellwangen Abbey and the mother of Abbot Kuno von Gundelfingen. The Rechberg family sold their share to Ellwangen Abbey as early as 1339. Further shares changed hands in the following decades, including to the Lords of Stammheim and later through marriage to the Lords of Hürnheim. In 1435, the castle passed to Albrecht von Hürnheim and Wilhelm Adelmann. After Albrecht's death, Wilhelm Adelmann acquired his half, bringing the castle entirely into the possession of the Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden family.
