Schieder Castle, an elegant Baroque castle in Schieder-Schwalenberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, was built at the beginning of the 18th century and served as the summer residence of the Princely House of Lippe. Today, it is a cultural center.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to the 15th century, when the area around Schieder was largely uninhabited, apart from a glassworks. These lands later fell to the Augustinian monastery in Blomberg, which developed them into an estate. The property passed to the Counts of Lippe in 1553. From 1621, it belonged to the collateral line of Lippe-Brake. Count Rudolph of Lippe-Brake initiated the construction of the castle and garden facilities from 1703. After the extinction of the Lippe-Brake line in 1773, the property briefly passed to Schaumburg-Lippe before returning to the Princely House of Lippe-Detmold in 1789.
