Schlosswil Castle

The origins of the estate trace back to the Barons of Wiler, who were mentioned in 1146 in connection with the Zähringer dynasty. Ownership fragmented until Burkhard von Erlach reunited the parts in 1514. Following a fire in 1546, Niklaus von Wattenwyl rebuilt the castle, incorporating the keep. In the 17th century, it was owned by the von Diesbach family, followed by the Frisching family from 1719. With the demise of the Republic of Bern in 1798, the manorial rights passed to the Canton of Bern. After 1800, the keep served as a granary. In 1812, the State of Bern acquired the domain and established the administrative seat of the Konolfingen district there. As part of a cantonal administrative reform, the castle was sold to an entrepreneur in 2011.
