In the town of Schlotheim in Thuringia, Schloss Schlotheim, a Baroque castle, is located. It was built on the foundations of an older castle complex and now serves as a hospital specializing in curative education and therapy.

History+

The origins of the site date back to the 10th century, when Schlotheim was known as a royal court with a castle, first mentioned in a document in 974. The town of Schlotheim received its town charter in 1277 and changed hands several times, including to the counties of Hohnstein and Schwarzburg. In 1425, Friedrich von Hopfgarten acquired the town and the castle. The original castle was demolished in 1768 to make way for the current Baroque palace.
