Schmölz Castle

Schloss Schmölz is located in the Schmölz district of the market town of Küps, Kronach district, Upper Franconia, Bavaria. It was first mentioned in 1194 as Smoulnce, then named Smolenz from 1264 and Schmalnz from 1329. The Barons of Redwitz were the lords of the castle and estate. The old castle of Schmölz was destroyed in the German Peasants' War in 1525. The new castle was built in 1536 and sold in 1861 by the poet Oskar von Redwitz to the Barons of Egloffstein.
In 1972, the building was acquired by the Prümer family, and is still inhabited today by their daughter Gabriele von Mansbach.
