Schmorkau Castle

Schmorkau Castle was built from 1847 to 1897 as a manor house with a stately home. The last owner was the Hohental family. The estate comprises four buildings. The castle is influenced by the German Renaissance architectural style. In 1898, a renovation in the Historicist style followed. The builder was the sewing machine manufacturer Naumann. He lived in the castle until 1910. The subsequent owner was the German Reich. Emperor Wilhelm II used the complex militarily as an officers' mess and barracks. The military use continued until 1992 by Soviet troops. In 1998, the municipality of Neukirch took over ownership. Since 2002, the castle has been back in private hands. It is managed by the Schloss - Schmorkau Renovation - and Operating Company.
