Schneeburg Castle, a late Gothic manor, is situated on the western edge of the municipality of Mils in Tyrol, Austria. Its history is intertwined with the Schneeberger family, who gave the building its name and shaped and expanded it.

History+

The origins of Schneeburg Castle date back to 1553, when Hans Schneeberger von Salthaus had the manor built. His son, Ruprecht Schneeberger, obtained the privilege in 1581 to use the name Schneeburg for himself and the property. Between 1581 and 1583, he added an eastern tower to the structure, which originally featured battlements. In 1633, the brothers Hans Dietrich and Hans Wolfgang von Schneeburg expanded the manor with a north wing and enriched the facades with five corners. An earthquake in 1670 led to the removal of the tower's battlements and their replacement with a half-hipped roof.
