Schochwitz Castle

The castle was built as a fortress in the 12th century by the Lords of Schochwitz. In 1133, the castle is mentioned as "Odalricus de Scochwize". In 1573, the castle was owned by the Magdeburg canon Levin von Schulenburg. From 1601-06, it was converted into a Renaissance castle. In 1783, ownership changed to Gebhard von Alvensleben. From 1802-04, the castle was expanded. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. Thereafter, the castle served as a school, kindergarten, and nurses' home.
