Schönborn Castle

In Geisenheim in the Rheingau region is Schloss Schönborn, originally known as Stockheimer Hof. It is a Renaissance noble residence, whose architecture illustrates the transition from late Gothic to Renaissance forms along the Middle Rhine and Main rivers.

History+

The estate was built around 1550 under Hermann von Stockheim, a member of a local noble family from Geisenheim. In 1652, ownership transferred to Philipp Erwein von Schönborn, brother of the then Archbishop of Mainz, Johann Philipp von Schönborn. Since then, the castle has remained continuously in the possession of the Counts of Schönborn-Wiesentheid.
