In Heusenstamm, Hesse, Schloss Schönborn is a historic edifice divided into a front and a rear castle, situated directly on the left bank of the Bieber river. It combines medieval roots with baroque splendor and today serves as a community center.

History+

The origins of the rear castle trace back to an old fortress of the Lords of Heusenstamm, which was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt, particularly in the early 15th and mid-16th centuries. The Thirty Years' War caused severe damage. After the extinction of the Lords of Heusenstamm in 1616, the dominion passed to the Schönborn family, who acquired the estate in 1661. Under Philipp Erwein von Schönborn, the front castle was built in Renaissance style between 1663 and 1668.
