Schloss Schönbrunn, an edifice from the early 18th century, stands on the western edge of the village of the same name. The estate, surrounded by a pond fed by several springs, is still maintained in private ownership today.

History+

The origins of the current Schönbrunn Castle lie in the early 18th century, when the three-story building with a hip roof was constructed. In 1855, the castle changed hands when the Leuchtenberg family sold it to Johann Georg von Löwel, a Royal Bavarian Councillor and District Judge of Kulmbach. Around 1900, ownership passed to his grandson Eugen Freiherr von Seefried auf Buttenheim. Today, the castle is inhabited and maintained by his grandson Maximilian Graf von der Schulenberg.
