Schönbrunn Castle

The castle is located on the western edge of the village. It is a new building from the early 18th century, surrounded on three sides by a pond fed by several springs. The three-story building with a hip roof features unadorned facades; the long sides have nine, the narrow sides three window axes. An octagonal roof turret with a dome roof for the castle chapel St. Joseph on the ground floor is placed on the ridge. On the surrounding wall are stone busts from 1786, dating from the Bechmann era, depicting winged Chronos and the seasons Summer, Autumn, and Winter. In 1855, the Leuchtenbergs sold the castle to Johann Georg von Löwel, Royal Bavarian Councillor and District Judge of Kulmbach. In 1900, the property passed to his grandson Eugen Freiherr von Seefried auf Buttenheim, whose grandson Maximilian Graf von der Schulenberg is the current lord of the castle.

In addition to agricultural buildings, the castle includes a two-winged, three-story former brewery (built in 1839 under the Duke of Leuchtenberg, probably by Leo von Klenze, in classical style) with a malt kiln exhaust and – to the west of the estate – a 14 m high water tower with an ox-treadmill system and piston pumps from the late Baroque period.
