Schönbusch Castle
Schloss Schönbusch, an example of early Neoclassical architecture, is located in Aschaffenburg. Originally built as an Electoral Pavilion, it has a direct connection to the Lower Lake, complemented by a visual axis to Johannisburg City Palace.
History+
The construction of the building took place between 1778 and 1781 in the early Neoclassical style, with interior work continuing until 1787. It was initially known as the Electoral Pavilion. From the 19th century onwards, under the rule of the Bavarian kings, the structure was given its current name, Schloss Schönbusch.
On site+
The castle is a two-story building with a rectangular floor plan. The west side serves as the main facade, emphasized by a projecting central risalit. The low hip roof is concealed by a balustrade. The ten interior rooms are furnished in the Louis XVI style and can be discovered during guided tours.
