Schönfeld Castle

The history of Schönfeld is linked to the von Rundstedt family, who owned the area west of Stendal since the late 12th century. In 1873, Otto von Rundstedt commissioned the construction of a castle. Building work began with the creation of a pond, the excavation from which served as the foundation for the new building. Within three years, a two-story plastered building with a high cellar plinth and a mansard hip roof was completed. The north side is adorned with a three-axis central risalit featuring the main portal. On the south side, there are two wings, with the eastern wing designed as a single axis and the western wing only slightly protruding beyond the south front. A large terrace with balustrades was created between these wings, and above the garden portal, the von Rundstedt family crest is displayed.
