Schönhausen Castle

The origins of Schönhausen date back to the early 13th century, when it was founded by the Bishops of Havelberg. The Romanesque brick church from 1212 dates from this early period. After the Reformation, the place came under Brandenburg and became the property of the Bismarck family in 1562 through an exchange agreement. During the Thirty Years' War, the village suffered destruction by Swedish troops in 1642. At the beginning of the 18th century, the Bismarcks built two castles: Schloss I around 1700 and Schloss II from 1729.
