Schörgern Castle

The first documented mention of Schörgern, then known as "Schergaren," dates to 1236, though without naming its owners at the time. In 1468, the brothers Maister Marx, Jörg, and Thoman die Hyerstain were recorded as owners of the estate Schergorn, described as "frays aigen." Later, the property came into the possession of the Lords of Wolff, who repeatedly granted it as a dowry to their daughters' husbands. If a daughter died, the castle always reverted to the Wolff family. In the 16th century, the Wolffs remained the main owners, with a nine-year interruption (1533–1542) during which Hanns Pirchinger used the castle. From 1542, Jörg Wolff is again documented as the owner. In 1588, Wolfgang III. von Hackledt is mentioned as the proprietor, and at the beginning of the 17th century, it belonged to his cousin Moritz von Hackledt. Around 1650, the Mawr family took possession, though the exact time of the transfer is unclear.
