Schonstett Castle

A castle is said to have existed as early as the 11th century. In 1507, the castle was owned by Friedrich von Reichertsheim, who died in 1534. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was destroyed and subsequently rebuilt. At this time, it was owned by Hanß Georg Preu Woll-Edel, who died in 1644. In 1675, his wife Anna Maria, née Randorf, died. Ownership then passed to the Lords of Schleich. In 1730, the castle was extended and renovated. In 1794, ownership passed to the Noble Lord Thaddäus Reisenegger and, after his death, to his widow Franziska Reisenegger. She died in 1835 and is said to have bequeathed 200 Gulden for poor children of the Hofmark. In 1848, the law for the abolition of manorialism, jurisdiction, police power, and corvée duties was enacted. A Mr. von Ziegler is said to have been the last patron lord of the place. In 1892, the castle passed, presumably by purchase, from the Deiglmeier family into the possession of the Munich local health insurance fund, which used it as a sanatorium from 1897.
