Schwaben Castle

The castle was built in 1283 as a fortress by Duke Ludwig the Strict. In 1650, after repeated destruction of the strategically well-placed fortress, a large, four-winged castle was built on the same site. In 1812, the north and south wings, the castle chapel, and the bridge house were demolished due to dilapidated building fabric. In 1908, the castle was renovated in Neo-Gothic style. In 1967, the municipality acquired the castle and used it as a town hall. In 1969, the west wing and the southwest corner were demolished due to dilapidated building fabric and for cost reasons.
