West of the village of Schwanberg stands Schloss Schwanberg, a structure in the Styrian landscape. Its history is marked by destruction and reconstruction, before it attained its current form.

History+

The origins of the castle lie in an initial fortress, built by the Pettauer family in the 11th and 12th centuries. This early fortification was destroyed in 1269 by order of King Ottokar of Bohemia. A few years later, the Pettauers began its reconstruction, which spanned from the 12th to the 14th century. The castle achieved its present form in 1581.
