Northwest of Waltalingen in the canton of Zurich, Schwandegg Castle stands on a hill. The complex, once home to a knightly lineage, now serves as a restaurant.

History+

The family of Schwandegg was first mentioned in 1288, when Knight Heinrich von Schwandegg was attested as a follower of the House of Habsburg. With the extinction of the lineage in 1413, the castle changed hands, passing to Hans von Münchwil. Schwandegg saw numerous changes of ownership, including the von Schönau family in 1470 and Gregorius von Roggwil, chief bailiff of Constance, in 1502. From 1537, under the farmer Anton Hermann, the complex began to decay until it was acquired by the mayor of Constance, Thomas Blarer, in 1553.
