Schwante Castle

Schwante Castle was constructed between 1741 and 1743 on behalf of the estate owner Erasmus Wilhelm von Redern and his wife Catherina Elisabeth von Bredow. It was built on the site of an older fortified house from 1618, parts of whose cellar vaults were integrated into the current structure. The two narrow side wings, which served as utility and staff quarters, were likely added in 1744. In 1888, Richard Sommer acquired the estate and had new outbuildings constructed between 1903 and 1905. A redesign of the castle's interior took place in 1910, altering the arrangement of doors, doorframes, and wood panels, as well as the staircase. After Sommer's death in 1916, the property was sold. The lands went to an agricultural cooperative, while the castle was acquired in 1924 by Vicco von Bülow, who subsequently called himself Vicco von Bülow-Schwante.
