Schwarzenau Castle

The origins of the estate trace back to the manorial court of Schwarzenau, which was assigned to the Richstein office in the oldest surviving inventory of goods. The manor house was built in the mid-17th century, with a half-timbered farm building added in the 18th century. In 1788, the current manor house was erected on a leveled site along the river. It served as a widow's residence, summer retreat, and hunting lodge. During the radical Pietism under Count Henrich Albrecht zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein, it also functioned as a seat of government and residence for the comital family.
