Schwedesdorf Castle

The origins of the estate date back to 1377, when the white line of the Münchhausen family was enfeoffed by the Count of Schaumburg with half of the tithe of Schwedesdorf. This enfeoffment also included three farms in Apelern. In 1594, an inheritance division took place among three brothers: Claus received Apelern and Nienfeld, Otto Lauenau, and Ludolf the maternal estates in Hessisch Oldendorf and Remeringhausen. Otto von Münchhausen, since 1583 bailiff at Amtsschloss Lauenau, began construction of his own Schloss Schwedesdorf in direct proximity in 1596. Johann Hundertossen from Hameln is considered the master builder, who later also built Schloss Bevern for Statius von Münchhausen.
